When it comes to BlackBerry devices, there is no doubt that a lot of information is stored throughout the device. Whether it is pictures, videos or documents, it is important to maintain some sort of organization so when you want to view or share, the file is easy to find. In addition to this, many people often backup their files to the cloud. This enables remote access and also provides an additional degree of comfort knowing the files are stored in more than one place.

With the numerous locations available to save files, both locally and through the cloud, one can easily become frustrated trying to save, sync or find files. Make your life easier with PlayCloud 10. This file manager application syncs, opens and plays files directly from your BlackBerry 10 device and is compatible with many cloud storage utilities, including Box, Dropbox, Skydrive, Google Drive and many more!

To get more information about this great app, we asked the developer, Nicolas Vivien of ProgWeb, a few questions.

“Files explorer (advanced cloud support)”

Where did the idea come from?

PlayCloud was born on the BlackBerry PlayBook. I needed to manage my documents, photos and more. Most of all, I wanted to connect to my cloud accounts to send / get my files and be able to share them with friends. I started PlayCloud using the AirSDK.

When BlackBerry provided me a DevAlpha device (the future Z10) I began to transitions PlayCloud to the new BlackBerry 10 OS platform. In fact, I wrote the app from scratch using the new NDK based on Qt.

How long did it take to develop the app?

Since 2012, I have spent a lot of time developing this application. But I had the first concept working very well within a few weeks. From there I have always wanted to do more and have added new features along the way.

As the user-base grew, I received numerous requests to add new cloud services support.

After several months, PlayCloud supported a lot of cloud services. You can also edit audio tag, print documents (and discover printers as AirPrint).

In the next few weeks, I have plans submit a new release to BlackBerry World with full file synchronization. My development of this app continues on and on…

Who are your ideal customers?

My customers are users around the world who want to manage files using an alternative application. At the beginning, Box and Dropbox were not very well supported and OneDrive (old SkyDrive) was not supported at all! So all users who are used to working with these services… Now mainly GoogleDrive, FTP, SFTP or WebDAV.

Why should customers buy your app?

To keep themselves organized. The app is so great that some users think it should be included in the OS!

In fact, PlayCloud is designed for all users who want to use the cloud storage services and the advanced cloud functions to share documents with colleague or friends.

I would also like to say “thank-you very much” to the PlayCloud contributors who translated my application in their language. Thanks to them the application is available in a many languages.

Together with this app we are recommending a few other applications available on BlackBerry World:
