At this point, we have no plans on turning the demo of the pure Java simulator into its own stand alone product. As noted in my response to Ricardo we are actively working on bringing our simulators and development tools to other platforms. Part of the purpose of this demo at DevCon (in November) was to showcase the ability to work on a Mac platform just as well as on Windows. As well, we are actively working on a GUI Builder product on BlackBerry which we showcased in a live demo at WES. This would leverage a similar type of simulator (for fast prototyping of your UI code) similar to what was shown at DevCon. If there are specific use cases for a stand alone simulator like this I would love to hear them.

Great question indeed. We are actively working on bringing our developer tools to other platforms with the majority of the development work centered around porting the simulator over to these platforms. Eclipse, the plugin, and a variety of other pieces included in our tools already work on other operating systems today.

Cory I agree with you, Excellent cuestion! I was wondering exactly the same. You RIM guys are java based, that's wonderful but, I can't understand how do you marry java with windows platform! java principles stands to be portable. Please release a SDK version and simulators that works in every platform. All developers will be happy

Nice to see hot swap introduced, that'll take the environment another step closer to being on-par with other mobile dev platforms. Hopefully the Eclipse environment will continue to get more robust.

The press release linked in this article makes it seem that hot swap was only for the web plugin v2.0.

Installing using the installer, it fails on creating source files…
Installing using the updater, it just fails to intall…
