BlackBerry App World Latin America Launch

Announcements

Hot on the heels of the BlackBerry App World™ v1.1 release and the first geographic expansion on July 31, I am thrilled to announce the continued rollout of App World to Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico! Today, these markets will support only free applications – but paid app submissions are also welcome so they can be available immediately when we flip the switch to enable paid apps.

For those of you keeping score, BlackBerry App World is now available in 18 countries! The full list is US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Austria, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg, and Portugal – and now Brazil, Venezuela, Argentina, Chile, and Mexico. BlackBerry App World v1.1 also includes language support for French, Italian, German, and Spanish, and currency support for Euros, GBP, CAD, and USD where paid apps are available.

Each country we add towards the global availability of BlackBerry App World is a celebration for all of us at RIM, and I hope for our developers and users too. While I know a lot of developers from around the world submitted apps for our initial launch, it is always nice to also sell in your own backyard! We are committed to continuing this rollout and making sure you are up-to-speed on important news, updates, as well as some tips we’re learning along the way.

Of course, while adding new locations and languages opens up new opportunities for BlackBerry® developers, it also means a little homework. Whether you are a new or existing BlackBerry App World vendor it’s even more important to pay attention to your carrier, country, and language selections to make sure your apps are reaching as many BlackBerry users as possible! There are lots of valuable vendor support resources available at www.blackberry.com/developers/appworld and check out the July BlackBerry Developer Newsletter for more information about the BlackBerry App World v1.1 release.

Finally, as BlackBerry developers from around the world register to join us in San Francisco, successful app distribution and monetization, including how to get the most out of BlackBerry App World, will be a major theme for this year’s show. Don’t miss it! See Doug’s blog post – “BlackBerry Developer Registration Now Live” for registration details.

Happy Selling!
